GenoFunk is an RPG about dying heroes in a world touched by the Apocalypse.

As their Characters crumble under the weight of a mutating world, Players gain more narrative power to alter the flow of the game and story.

The Setting of GenoFunk

Your story begins in a perfect world forced to begin again. Civilization has collapsed. Humanity stands at the edge of something new, with no guarantee that what comes next will be better. Will people become feral beasts, tearing one another apart over the last scraps of a dying world—or will something Wonderful happen?

That choice belongs to you. GenoFunk is a story of human decline and fairytale wonder, of a world falling apart even as impossible possibilities begin to emerge. As your Characters travel their own personal Sunset Boulevards, slipping toward inevitable ruin, you gain ever greater power over the fate of the world around them. Your Characters may be dying, but you will become the hand that shapes what survives them.

Dying Heroes

The protagonists of GenoFunk are victims of a modern malady: Sewer-Sterling Syndrome, or Se.S. Se.S. strikes before birth. A prion-like disease that violently mutates its victim's DNA, it is one of the few illnesses humanity never managed to eradicate.

Modern medicine did, however, make it harmless. All it takes is a little pill—one the Corporations freely provide to anyone afflicted. And so your Characters lived as almost anyone else did, enjoying life at the apex of transhuman civilization. Se.S. was an inconvenience, little more.

Then came the Event. The world went dark. The systems that sustained civilization collapsed. The drugs that kept Se.S. dormant could no longer be manufactured, and your Characters were left with whatever medicine they happened to have when the Flare struck. Now that supply is running out, and the symptoms have begun to show.

Then, one morning at dawn, a stranger arrives at their door. He is blind, Black, and enormously fat, perched atop a rickety cart overflowing with knick-knacks and pulled by a mule. He introduces himself simply as Mr. Wonder.

Mr. Wonder offers food, clothing, and supplies, asking for nothing in return. Then he gives the Characters something stranger still: an artifact from a long-bygone age—a crystal radio. He shows them how to use it, and impossibly, through the headset, they hear music.

A signal. Somewhere beyond the ruins, something is broadcasting. Somewhere, there is electricity. Somewhere, there may still be hope.

And so the Characters set out upon the Golden Road, searching for the source of that impossible signal—and for whatever waits at the end of it.
